Here Rodriguez ATA Martial Arts Academy, our staff is the secret to our student success. Each instructor has a rich background in martial arts and is eager to train the next generation of martial artists. Meet the team below!

Head Instructor

Mr. Richard Rodriguez

Taekwondo 5th Degree Black Belt, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt & School Owner

Mr. Rodriguez started his Martial Arts training over 24 years ago. He is a certified instructor through the ATA (American Taekwondo Association) STF (Songham Taekwondo Federation) and WTTF (World Traditional Taekwondo Federation). He has martial arts training in Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, Creative Martial Arts and Weapons. He is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and he is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has competed in many Taekwondo & Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments where he has won at the Regional & National level throughout his Martial Arts career. Mr. Rodriguez also works closely with local communities and local schools promoting seminars in Bully Prevention, Child Safety and Self Defense. Mr. Rodriguez continues to train with ATA The American Taekwondo Association and continues his training as a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under World Champion Professor Marcus Antelante as part of the Aeres Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association.

Mr. David Rodriguez

Taekwondo 4th Degree Black Belt, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt & School Owner

Mr. Rodriguez started his Martial Arts training over 24 years ago.. He has competed in many Taekwondo & Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments where he has won at the Regional & National level throughout his Martial Arts career. Mr. Rodriguez works closely with local communities and local schools promoting seminars in Bully Prevention, Child Safety and Self Defense. Mr. Rodriguez also works part-time in the stunt & movie industry in Los Angeles & Dallas and he is a current member of (SAG) Screen Actor’s Guild. He also works as a local model in Dallas with the The Campbell Agency for commercials and private corporations. Mr. Rodriguez continues his training as a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under World Champion Professor Marcus Antelante as part of the Aeres Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association.

Ms. Sydney Berger

Ms. Sydney started her martial arts training in 2016 during her Junior at Guyer High School. She earned her 1st Degree Black Belt in 2018 before starting college. While attending The University of Texas at Arlington she continued her martial arts training and earned her 2nd Degree Black Belt and Level 1 Instructor collar. Ms. Sydney graduated from UTA in 2021 with a BBA in Finance and began working full time as a Fixed Assets Accountant for Master Halco, while also continuing to work part time as a Barista and Trainer at Starbucks where she has been employed for 5 years. Ms. Sydney is currently assisting with teaching classes at Rodriguez Martial Arts Academy, as well as training in Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and in the ATA Legacy program under both Mr. Richie and Mr. David.

Mr. Jarrod Berger

Mr. Jarrod began his martial arts training in 2012, earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 2015, and began instructing soon after. He graduated from Colleyville Heritage High School, and then attended The University of Texas at Arlington from which he graduated in 2021 with a double BBA in Management and Marketing with certificates in Sales and Entrepreneurial Studies. Throughout college he did volunteer work for the Knights of Columbus, became fluent in Spanish, and started learning Korean while continuing to teach and train in Taekwondo. He has now earned his 2nd Degree Black Belt and Level 1 Instructor collar and assists with leading classes at Rodriguez Martial Arts Academy while also working as a Bartender at Chili’s Grill and Bar. Mr. Jarrod is currently training in Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and in the ATA Legacy program under both Mr. Richie and Mr. David.

Mr. Trevor Reed

Mr. Trevor Reed started training Jiu-Jitsu in 2018 and is currently a purple belt under Mr David Rodriguez. Originally starting Jiu-Jitsu to get his son involved, he fell in love with the sport, not only training non-stop himself but also working with his oldest sons, who both currently train.

His unique style and work ethic have proven to be a great combination as he competes regularly in tournaments. He loves working with kids and helping adults achieve greater confidence in their skills, regardless of their current situation. If Mr. Reed isn’t training Jiu-Jitsu he’s spending time with his family, 5 kids and his wife. Mr. Reed is a mortgage broker and real estate investor, which he jokingly says supports his Jiu-Jitsu.

Zoey Grantham

Ms. Zoey is a 2nd degree Taekwondo Blackbelt and started her Martial Arts training under Mr. Rodriguez, 8 years ago. Zoey currently competes in taekwondo tournaments in Forms, Traditional Weapons, Sparring, Combat, Team Sparring, Creative and Extreme Forms, as well as Creative and Extreme Weapons. Zoey has won State and District titles and is regularly ranked in the top 10 in the nation. Zoey has set a goal of winning a World Title and one day sparring for ATA Team USA.

Ms. Zoey is currently teaching taekwondo classes as a Legacy level 2 (black/red/black) Instructor as well as continuing her training in taekwondo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She is available for private lessons.

Isaac Tauaefa

Isaac started training jiu-jitsu in 2017 and is currently a brown belt under David Rodriguez. Isaac played Division 1 college football and sustained a career-ending injury that led him to seek out another avenue for competition and discipline, which he found in jiu-jitsu.

Isaac competes, teaches classes, and gives private lessons –all which help him become a better student and teacher of jiu-jitsu. When he’s not on the mat, he’s working in Real Estate Title insurance, serving as the President of “Jesus and Jiu-Jitsu”, or spending time with his wife and three young kids.
